The central focus of the proposed workshop is an in-depth discussion of the current status and recent developments of the description of reaction processes of weakly bound nuclei. Emphasis will be given to recent developments in modeling breakup reactions and corresponding observables, which are essential for a full exploitation of the capabilities of available and future radioactive ion beam facilities. A second directly related focus of the workshop will be the discussion of the impact of the continuum on the nuclear structure of weakly bound nuclei. Apart from the progress in established techniques, e.g. the Continuum Discretized Coupled Channel Method (CDCC), high energy (eikonal) approaches and the Gamov Shell Model, the workshop will also revisit the status of a unified theoretical approach for nuclear structure and reactions, which preserves an ab-initio philosophy and isbased on basic properties of QCD providing a consistent framework for 2N and 3N interactions. The status of corresponding software tools for reaction and structure calculations will also be discussed as well as applications of reaction models to nuclear astrophysics. The topics of the workshop are intimately related to the tasks of the JRA THEXO and combine the proposed workshops within ENSAR, i.e. (1) Workshop on “Coupling modern nuclear structure models
